Reverse description A left-facing portrait bust of the celebrated Polish Romantic poet Adam Mickiewicz occupies the center of the field, rendered in high relief with fine detail in the facial features and period costume with a folded collar. The legend ADAM MICKIEWICZ arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin letters. The poet's life dates 1798 - 1855 are inscribed in two groups along the lower arc, separated by a dash. The word PRÓBA (meaning 'trial' or 'pattern' in Polish) appears in small letters to the right of the portrait, confirming the piece's status as a pattern strike. The deeply mirrored proof fields contrast sharply with the frosted relief of the portrait.
