Andrzej Heidrich designed virtually every significant Polish banknote issued between the 1970s and 2010s — a continuity of authorship almost without parallel in European central banking. The engraving credit to Henry Stanley Doubtfire is a notable Anglo-Polish pairing; Doubtfire was among the most respected portrait engravers working in European security printing during the latter twentieth century.
The Polish Security Printing Works has produced Polish currency in Warsaw since 1919, surviving occupation, wartime destruction, and reconstruction — a rare case of unbroken institutional identity across catastrophic political discontinuity.
