The P#176 series was introduced as part of Poland's post-communist currency redenomination — on January 1, 1995, the złoty was revalued at 10,000 old złotych to 1 new złoty, effectively wiping four zeros off the previous hyperinflationary denominations. Notes dated 1994 were printed in advance of that switchover and entered circulation on the redenomination date itself, which means pre-circulation examples are genuinely common.
PWPW has handled Polish banknote production domestically since 1919, with only wartime interruptions forcing work abroad.
