By 1990, Poland was mid-transition — the communist-era zloty was hemorrhaging value at a rate that made low-denomination notes almost immediately obsolete. This 100 zloty was printed by Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig, then still operating in East Germany in the final weeks before reunification made that geographic designation itself obsolete. The political timing is worth noting: Leipzig G&D had been a primary supplier for socialist-bloc currencies throughout the Cold War.
The note was superseded rapidly as hyperinflation compressed purchasing power. Redenomination in 1995 wiped out four zeros — making this 100 zlotys equivalent to one grosz in the new system.
