This is a private or local fantasy issue, not a product of the Narodowy Bank Polski, and carries no legal tender status in Poland. "Ryby Polskich Akwenów" — roughly, Fish of Polish Waters — is a collector series produced outside state mint authority, with the dwarf catfish (Ictalurus or similar) serving as the subject. The oxidized finish was applied deliberately to simulate age and enhance relief contrast, a common finishing technique in privately struck medallions of this type.
