Reverse description The central field depicts a sinuous snake rendered in fine relief, its scaled body coiling gracefully across the lower portion of the design, symbolising the Chinese zodiac Year of the Snake. Above the snake, a large stylised Chinese seal-script inscription is prominently displayed, reading the cyclical year designation in ancient zhuan shu calligraphy. Encircling the central devices is a decorative dotted border interspersed with twelve relief medallions, each bearing a representation of one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. An artist's seal mark appears below the central motif, and the denomination 100元 is inscribed in bold numerals along the lower border.
