Reverse description A naturalistically rendered rabbit in full stride occupies the central field, depicted leaping dynamically to the left with detailed fur texture, conveying vitality and movement. In the right background, a flowering prunus branch in bloom rises gracefully, enhancing the composition with a classical Chinese artistic sensibility. A decorative grass motif appears beneath the rabbit. The denomination 100元 is inscribed in the lower right field, while the legend 金量金1盎司 成色.999 1oz Au arcs along the upper rim, indicating the coin's gold content and fineness.

Additional information

China's lunar gold series, launched in 1981 with the Year of the Rooster, established the template that nearly every major mint worldwide would eventually imitate. The 1999 Rabbit is the final issue of the first full twelve-year lunar cycle in that series — a fact that drove collector demand at the time and pushed mintages lower than earlier issues in the run, as the People's Bank had by then shifted production emphasis toward the incoming second cycle designs.
