| Obverse description | Central device depicts a young immortal figure, rendered in traditional Chinese artistic style, seated astride a bounding qilin (麒麟) — the Chinese mythological unicorn — which gallops rightward above stylized auspicious clouds. The rider holds a lotus bloom and stem in the left hand and a ruyi sceptre in the right, with ornamental jewellery at the neck. The legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs along the upper periphery in Chinese characters, with the characters 麒麟 inscribed to the lower right of the field. The date 1994 appears in the lower exergue beneath the cloud motif. |
