The Central Bank of China's wartime 100 Yuan issues were produced under severe material and logistical constraints as Japanese forces controlled much of the country's coast and most modern printing infrastructure. The Chung Hua Book Company, originally a Shanghai publisher and printer, relocated operations inland following the fall of Shanghai in 1937 and continued producing government currency under difficult conditions throughout the war years.
Rampant inflation during this period meant 100 Yuan notes passed through hands quickly and wore rapidly — high-denomination notes from 1942 that survived in decent shape typically did so because they were saved, not spent.
