| Obverse description | Letterpress-printed in brown on cream paper, the obverse carries a central vignette of the Great Wall of China across the right portion of the note, enclosed within an ornate cartouche with scrollwork and floral corner ornaments. The Bank of Central China was a puppet institution established under Japanese occupation, issuing currency across Hubei, Hunan, and Jiangxi provinces as part of a broader strategy to displace Nationalist and regional currencies. By 1945 the military situation had turned decisively against Japan, and notes issued that year entered circulation into an economy already collapsing under hyperinflationary pressure — purchasing power eroded so rapidly that high denominations became necessary for routine transactions.
