Issued to mark the PLA's 90th anniversary, this coin commemorates the founding of the Red Army at Nanchang on August 1, 1927 — a date the People's Republic treats as the birth of its modern military. The Nanchang Uprising, led in part by He Long and Zhu De, was militarily unsuccessful within days, but August 1st was formally enshrined as Army Day by the CCP in 1933.
The 8-gram format places this among the smaller gold issues in China's commemorative program, which frequently runs parallel series at multiple weights to accommodate different buyer tiers.
