The Bank of Taiwan's 1949 100 Yuan belongs to the chaotic monetary moment immediately following the June 1949 introduction of the New Taiwan Dollar, when the old Taiwan Yen-era banking infrastructure was being dismantled and the island was absorbing a massive influx of Nationalist government institutions and refugee capital fleeing the mainland. The Central Engraving and Printing Factory had relocated to Taipei from Shanghai earlier that year — one of the few printing operations the Kuomintang successfully evacuated before the PRC took full control.
