| Obverse description | Printed in dark grey-green intaglio on white paper, the obverse centres on an oval vignette of Prince Shōtoku in traditional court dress, holding a ceremonial shaku staff, set against a fine guilloche underprint in teal. The imperial chrysanthemum seal is positioned at the top centre, flanked by the block-character denomination 百圓 to the left and the issuer inscription 日本銀行券 above, with two red seal impressions at lower left and right.
