(Translation: State of Japan Tokaido TOKAIDO Hundred Yen)
Reverse description Central device presents a front-facing head-on view of a Series 0 Shinkansen bullet train, its characteristic rounded nose and two oval headlamps rendered in fine relief against a plain field. A commemorative legend 新幹線鉄道開業50年 (50th Anniversary of the Opening of the Shinkansen Railway) arcs around the upper periphery in Japanese characters, flanked by raised dots. The denomination 100 YEN is inscribed along the lower left arc in Latin numerals and script, while the regnal date 平成27年 (Heisei Year 27, i.e. 2015) appears along the lower right arc, the two separated by a raised dot at the base.
