| 正面描述 | The national coat of arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is displayed prominently in the central field, depicting a hydroelectric power station beneath a red star, framed by sheaves of rice bound with a ribbon. The Hangul legend reading 조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행 (Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) curves along the upper periphery. The weight designation '7g' appears to the lower left of the arms and the fineness '999' to the lower right, with the date '1996' inscribed along the bottom, flanked by decorative laurel branches. |

North Korea's foreign currency collectibles program, active from the 1980s onward, was designed almost entirely to generate hard currency from overseas collectors rather than to serve any domestic function. These pieces never circulated inside the DPRK. The Robinson Crusoe subject — drawn from Defoe's 1719 novel — appears across several international mint programs of the 1990s, and North Korea licensed comparable literary and wildlife themes through intermediary dealers, primarily based in Germany and Austria, who handled distribution entirely outside the country.
