North Korea issued commemorative won notes on several occasions tied to political anniversaries, but the 2012 emission marking Kim Il Sung's centenary birth year carries particular weight — it was released as the country simultaneously declared itself a "full nuclear and space power," following the April Kwangmyongsong-3 satellite launch.
