Mongolia issued a run of silver-plated copper novelty pieces in the mid-2000s targeting the souvenir and thematic collector market rather than serious numismatic buyers. The colorization was applied after striking, a process that disqualifies these from most major registry sets and keeps them firmly outside mainstream collection hierarchies. KM#347a distinguishes this plated copper version from a companion silver issue, the two having been released simultaneously at different price points.
