Kazakhstan joined the United Nations on March 2, 1992 — just weeks after declaring independence from the Soviet Union in December 1991. The commemorative marks the 30th anniversary of that accession, which came as part of a wave of post-Soviet admissions that expanded UN membership by more than a dozen states within a single year.
