Part of Kazakhstan's ongoing "Games and Toys" series, this piece commemorates togyzqumalaq, a two-player count-and-capture board game played across the Kazakh steppe for centuries. The game operates on a mancala-type mechanic and carries enough cultural weight that it is formally recognized by UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list — Kazakhstan submitted it jointly with Kyrgyzstan in 2020.
