| Reversbeschreibung | The colored tantalum centre depicts a stylized lion's head rendered in an ornamental labyrinthine design of interlocking curves, set against an amber-toned field. To the upper left of the lion appears a spiral motif, and to the upper right the constellation of Leo is portrayed as a pattern of raised stars connected by lines. The Leo zodiac symbol (♌) appears to the right of the central figure, and the legend LEO is inscribed to the left. The octagonal silver ring surrounding the central disc is decorated with flame or wave motifs along its inner border and eight-pointed stars along its outer edges. |

Tantalum is one of the most difficult metals to work with in a mint environment — it is extraordinarily hard, resistant to acids, and notoriously unforgiving during striking. Kazakhstan's choice of it for this issue was deliberate: tantalum's blue-grey tone is visually distinct from any conventional coinage metal, and the National Bank has used it across a small series of zodiac-themed collector pieces where the contrast with the silver ring is the whole point of the exercise.
