The USS Missouri (BB-63) was the last battleship ever commissioned by the United States Navy and the site of Japan's formal surrender on September 2, 1945 — making her arguably the most historically loaded hull in American naval history. She was decommissioned, recommissioned during the Korean War, decommissioned again, then returned to service in the 1980s under the Reagan administration's 600-ship Navy buildup before final retirement in 1992.
