Tajikistan's 100 Somoni note has gone through several incremental security upgrades since the denomination was first introduced, and this 2017 version is distinguished primarily by the adoption of a wider security thread — a straightforward technical revision rather than a full redesign. G+D's Leipzig facility has handled Tajik banknote production across multiple series, giving the output a consistent technical baseline.

The Somoni itself was introduced in 2000, replacing the transitional Tajik Ruble at a rate of 1:1000, a reform tied directly to the country's effort to stabilize after the civil war of the 1990s.
