This series spans one of the more turbulent stretches in modern Peruvian history — the military government of Juan Velasco Alvarado, who seized power in October 1968 and pursued aggressive nationalization policies that put the Banco Central under sustained political pressure. Thomas De La Rue handled production throughout, a relationship the Peruvian central bank had maintained for years by this point.
Three signature combinations across five years reflect real institutional turnover at the senior level, not routine rotation. The 1974 date is particularly late in the Sol de Oro's lifespan — hyperinflationary pressure would force the introduction of the Inti in 1985, eventually rendering the entire denomination irrelevant.
