The Banco Central de Reserva del Perú relied heavily on American Bank Note Company throughout the mid-twentieth century, and this series reflects that relationship cleanly — ABNC produced the intaglio work to its usual commercial standard for Latin American central bank clients of the period.
Peru's sol de oro had been pegged and repegged through the 1950s under considerable inflationary pressure, and by the time this series entered circulation the 100-sol denomination was losing ground to daily purchasing reality. It would take until 1965 for the series to conclude, after which denominations climbed sharply upward into the following decade.
