The Banco Central de Reserva del Perú relied almost exclusively on Thomas De La Rue throughout the postwar decades, and this long-running series reflects that dependency — the 100 Soles de Oro was issued continuously across twelve years without a fundamental redesign, with date and signature combinations distinguishing individual printings rather than any structural change to the plates.
Peru's sol had been pegged and revalued repeatedly since the 1930s; by the late 1950s the 100-sol denomination was losing ground to inflation, and by the time this series was retired it barely covered what a 10-sol note had bought at its introduction.
