| Reverse description | A bold, forward-facing portrait of a tiger's head in high relief occupies a recessed central medallion, rendered with fine detail in the striped fur, open jaws, and prominent whiskers. The tiger head is shown three-quarter facing, slightly to the left, commemorating the Chinese Year of the Tiger. The legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 2004 and the word TIGER are inscribed along the lower portion of the coin. |

| Additional information |
Uganda's shilling series of the early 2000s was issued during a period of relative monetary stabilization following decades of currency collapse — the original shilling had been so thoroughly destroyed by inflation under Idi Amin and subsequent governments that a 1987 redenomination replaced 100 old shillings with one new one. The nickel-plated steel composition on this piece replaced earlier brass issues as the Bank of Uganda moved to reduce production costs on high-denomination circulating coinage.
The Schön C143.1 designation suggests at least one catalogued subvariety exists within this type.
