| Reverse description | A large adult African elephant is depicted in high relief advancing toward the viewer at center-right, displaying prominent tusks and broadly spread ears with fine textural detail across the skin. A juvenile elephant is shown in the middle ground to the left, partially obscured behind the adult, suggesting a mother-and-calf pairing. To the left, a cluster of acacia trees with characteristic flat canopies frames the composition, while a flock of birds in flight is rendered in the upper field. The surrounding legend reads AFRICAN WILDLIFE at the top and ELEPHANT at the lower left, with the purity and weight designation 1 oz Ag 999 at the lower right, all within a beaded inner border. |

Somalia's elephant bullion series occupies an unusual niche: issued under Somali authority but produced entirely for the European collector and bullion market, with no meaningful connection to domestic circulation. The series is closely associated with the Bavarian State Mint in Munich, which has struck the majority of issues. Each annual release carries a new reverse design, making the series a deliberate annual collectible rather than a standard bullion program.
KM#255 is the 2015 installment. The changing designs year to year have driven secondary-market premiums well above melt on earlier dates.
