Additional information

Somalia's elephant bullion series, running since 1999, is technically issued under Somali authority but has always been produced and marketed entirely outside the country — the Bavarian State Mint in Munich handles production, and the coins have never circulated in Somalia in any meaningful sense. The 2012 issue added a Lunar Dragon privy mark to capitalize on the Chinese New Year collector market, a commercial decision that had nothing to do with Somali monetary policy and everything to do with European bullion marketing strategy.
