| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two African bush elephants are depicted in high relief facing each other in a savannah landscape, their large tusks prominent in the foreground, with the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro rising in the background. The legend AFRICAN WILDLIFE arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by raised dots serving as decorative separators. The word ELEPHANT appears as a straight legend along the lower left field, while the inscription 1/10 oz Au 999.9 is positioned along the lower right, confirming the coin's gold content and fineness. The naturalistic rendering captures the animals in detailed sculptural relief against a textured landscape ground. |

Somalia's Elephant series has no connection to the country's monetary system in any practical sense — these are bullion issues produced under licensing arrangements and sold entirely to foreign collectors and investors. The Somali government grants the franchise; the coins are struck in Europe, most likely at the Bavarian State Mint in Munich, which has handled much of this series.
The design changes annually, a deliberate strategy borrowed from the South African Krugerrand's competitors to drive year-on-year collector demand.
