Chula Island is an uninhabited landmass off the coast of Tanzania, not Somalia — its appearance on a Somali coin has nothing to do with territorial claim or geographic relevance to the issuing authority. These pieces are part of a broader commercial program operated through Somalia's nominal licensing arrangements, producing collector-targeted issues that never entered circulation in Somalia or anywhere else. The Somali state apparatus has been used in this fashion since the 1990s, with private minting interests acquiring the rights to issue in its name.
