Austria's 1945 100 Schilling was issued under Allied occupation, with the Oesterreichische Nationalbank reconstituted almost immediately after the war's end — Austria having been declared the first victim of Nazi aggression under the 1943 Moscow Declaration, a legal and political framing that had direct consequences for how quickly its central bank was permitted to resume operations. The second issue designation distinguishes it from an earlier series recalled as part of the postwar currency reform intended to suppress the enormous volume of Reichsmarks and occupation scrip flooding the country.
Wilhelm Dachauer was a Vienna-trained painter and graphic artist whose work predated the Anschluss. His involvement here reflects a deliberate effort to restore Austrian cultural identity to the currency.
