Reverse description A truncated bust of the German composer and conductor Otto Nicolai (1810–1849), founder of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, is portrayed facing slightly left in the center of the field, rendered in a Romantic portrait style consistent with 19th-century convention. He is depicted in period dress featuring a cravat, waistcoat, and tailcoat. The inscription OTTO NICOLAI appears to the right of the bust within the field. The commemorative legend 150 JAHRE WIENER PHILHARMONIKER arcs around the periphery, reading from lower left through the upper register to lower right.
