Austria's First Republic lasted only fifteen years before Dollfuss suspended parliament in 1933 and established his authoritarian "Fatherland Front" regime — a prelude to the Anschluss of 1938. This 1995 issue commemorates that ill-fated republic, struck in the same year Austria joined the European Union, a political milestone that would eventually render the Schilling itself obsolete within seven years.
