Percetakan Kebayoran — the state printing works established in the early 1950s — was part of a deliberate push to produce Indonesian currency domestically rather than contract the work to Dutch or British firms, as had been unavoidable in the immediate post-independence years. By 1958 the facility had enough capacity to handle the full series of which this note is a part, with local designers Junalies and Sadjiroen credited on obverse and reverse respectively — an unusual degree of attribution for the period.
The 1958 series was superseded when the December 1965 redenomination collapsed the rupiah at 1,000 to 1, rendering the entire pre-reform note stock worthless overnight.
