备注

India's National Defence Certificates were war bonds issued in paper certificate form rather than as conventional currency — this 100 Rupees example dates to 1962, the year of the Sino-Indian War, when the government urgently needed public capital to fund military expenditure following the October Chinese advance into NEFA and Ladakh. The twelve-year maturity term was deliberate: long enough to defer redemption pressure while the defence budget remained strained.

Production at the India Security Press in Nasik Road — the same facility handling the Republic's banknote output — meant these certificates shared security printing standards with circulating paper money, including watermarked stock.
