The Government College of the Pakistan Army, based in Jhelum, traces its origins to 1922 when it was established under British colonial administration to prepare sons of military families for entry into officer training. It remains one of the oldest continuously operating military preparatory institutions on the subcontinent. Pakistan has issued commemorative rupee coins for institutional anniversaries with increasing regularity since the 1990s, and this piece falls within that pattern.
