Beschrijving keerzijde Central motif features a three-quarter facing bust of Allama Mohammad Iqbal, the celebrated poet-philosopher of Pakistan, depicted in contemplative pose with his right hand raised to his cheek, wearing a suit and displaying a moustache. The birth year '1877' appears to the left of the portrait and '1977' to the right, marking the centenary of his birth. A curved Urdu legend along the lower periphery reads 'صد سالہ تقریب پیدائش علامہ محمد اقبال' (Centenary Celebration of the Birth of Allama Mohammad Iqbal). The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field, with the reeded rim framing the design. The composition conveys dignity and scholarly gravitas befitting a commemorative issue.

Aanvullende informatie

This issue commemorates the centenary of Iqbal's birth in 1877 — he remains the poet-philosopher whose verse is most directly credited with articulating the ideological basis for a separate Muslim homeland in South Asia, a case he made most explicitly in his 1930 Allahabad Address to the Muslim League. Pakistan issued several silver commemoratives in the 1970s under Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's government, this among them, just months before Bhutto was deposed in Zia ul-Haq's July 1977 coup.
