| Additional information |
Vijaya Raje Scindia, the Rajmata of Gwalior, was a founding member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 and later a senior figure in the BJP — a rare example of royal-to-republican political transition that shaped north Indian conservative politics for four decades. She died in 2001, making this centenary issue an eighteen-year posthumous commemoration. The .500 fineness places it squarely in India's modern commemorative silver program, which has used that alloy consistently since the 1990s rather than the higher-purity standards of earlier decades.
