The Seychelles achieved independence from Britain in June 1976, and this note belongs to the first issue produced for the new republic — a transitional series that preceded the establishment of the Central Bank of Seychelles in 1983. Bradbury Wilkinson was a logical choice for the commission; the New Malden firm had an extensive relationship with newly independent Commonwealth nations needing credible currency fast.

P#22 is scarce in high grades. The humid Indian Ocean climate accelerated paper deterioration in circulation, and the series was replaced relatively quickly once the Central Bank took over monetary operations.
