100 Rufiyaa

Pick 7 belongs to the first substantive paper currency series issued by the Maldives — a polity that had relied almost entirely on cowrie shells and later imported coinage for centuries of commerce. The shift to a De La Rue printed series in the early 1950s coincided with the brief period when the Maldives operated as a sultanate under nominal British protection, a political arrangement that collapsed entirely by 1968.

The 100 Rufiyaa was the highest denomination in the series and almost certainly saw little retail circulation in an economy where that sum exceeded most islanders' monthly income. Surviving examples in any grade are genuinely uncommon.
