The Eurasian Economic Union formally came into force on January 1, 2015, uniting Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan under a single customs and economic framework — the most ambitious post-Soviet integration project since the CIS. This coin was issued the same year as the treaty's entry into force, making it part of the Bank of Russia's broader commemorative program marking the institutional launch rather than any anniversary.
Kyrgyzstan had only acceded to the EAEU in August 2015, meaning its membership was barely months old when the dies were cut.
