Comments

The Azov-Don Commercial Bank was one of the largest commercial banks in pre-revolutionary Russia, with a network of provincial branches that found themselves issuing emergency local currency during the chaos of 1918. The Grozny branch operated in the heart of the Terek oilfields — a region violently contested between Bolshevik forces, the White movement, and local Terek Cossack and Chechen factions throughout the civil war period. Notes issued here circulated in genuinely unstable conditions.

The perforation and official stamp were not decorative — branch-issued private emergency notes of this type were routinely authenticated at the counter to prevent forgery and distinguish locally valid issues from notes of the parent bank or rival issuers flooding the same market.
