Obverse description Bare-headed, bearded bust of King Luís I of Portugal in left-facing profile, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail to the hair and sideburns. The engraver's initials F.A.C. appear in small letters beneath the truncation on later issues. A circular legend in Latin runs along the periphery, interrupted at the base by the date. The field is smooth and unadorned, with a fine beaded inner border framing the design.
