| Reverse description | The central field displays the large denomination numeral 100 in bold, wide-set figures, with the word RÉIS inscribed immediately below and the mint year beneath that, all within an open central zone. Encircling the denomination is a broad ornamental border of interlaced, maze-like geometric scrollwork in a continuous Art Deco-influenced pattern that fills the entire peripheral area. The country name BRASIL is inscribed at the top of the central zone, above the numeral, in a slightly smaller but equally bold serif typeface. |

| Additional information |
This issue belongs to the Getúlio Vargas "Estado Novo" period, during which the Brazilian mint undertook a sweeping redesign of the entire circulating series following Vargas's 1937 coup and the suspension of the constitution. The small-denomination copper-nickel coins of this run saw extremely heavy circulation among Brazil's urban working population and are consequently difficult to find above Fine.
