The Plano Real launched in July 1994 replaced the chronically inflated cruzeiro real at a fixed 1:1 parity with the US dollar — a monetary stabilization so politically consequential that Fernando Henrique Cardoso rode it from Finance Minister to the presidency. The earliest prefix runs of this note, signed by Cardoso and Malan, predate that election and carry no religious imprint on the face.
The phrase "Deus Seja Louvado" was added beginning around series A1202A, following public pressure — a pattern with Brazilian notes going back decades. Its absence on the first ~1,201 prefix runs makes those early Cardoso-signed examples the most catalogued signature variety among collectors. The Guido Mantega legibility split across A2819A further distinguishes what is otherwise a long, undifferentiated print run spanning thirteen years and six signature combinations.
