Obverse description Central vignette of Bishop and Bachelor Francisco Marroquín, first Bishop of Guatemala and defender of indigenous peoples, rendered in intaglio. A Quetzal bird appears alongside a Mayan deity sculpture, with a stylised pyramid forming part of the underprint composition. The issuing authority inscription and the lengthy commemorative title of Marroquín run along the lower border.

Reverse description The University of San Carlos de Borromeo in Antigua, founded in 1676, occupies the central vignette, surrounded by Mayan glyphic writings and ornamental border elements drawn from pre-Columbian iconography. A Mayan deity sculpture is incorporated as a see-through registration device aligned between obverse and reverse. The denomination and founding legend of the university appear in the lower inscription panel.
