Ismaily SC, founded in 1924 in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia, is one of Egypt's oldest clubs and has spent most of its history in the shadow of Cairo's giants — yet commands fierce regional loyalty along the Canal Zone. Egypt's commemorative pound series has leaned heavily on football clubs in recent years, with the Central Bank issuing collector pieces for Al Ahly, Zamalek, and several others in quick succession. The .720 silver fineness is a deliberate holdover from mid-century Egyptian coinage standards, kept consistent across the sports club series rather than adopting the more common .925 used elsewhere.
