Cairo University's Faculty of Law, founded in 1906, was the first modern law school in Egypt and produced a disproportionate share of the country's twentieth-century political class — Boutros Boutros-Ghali among its alumni. Egypt's commemorative pound series in silver at .720 fineness reflects a long-standing domestic standard kept well below sterling, a deliberate cost-control decision that has defined the Central Bank's commemorative program for decades.
