背面描述 A heraldic Yale of Beaufort, the mythical beast associated with the Beaufort family and depicted as a spotted creature with the characteristics of an antelope or goat, is shown stationary and facing left atop a crowned shield charged with a portcullis with chains, a badge historically associated with the House of Beaufort and the Tudor dynasty. The beast's characteristic swiveling horns are rendered in detail. The legend naming the subject, fineness, and date encircles the central device, with the engraver's initials JC also present.

附加信息

The Yale of Beaufort is one of the ten heraldic beasts reproduced for the Queen's Beasts series, drawn from the gilded wooden figures commissioned for Elizabeth II's 1953 coronation at Westminster Abbey. The originals were designed by sculptor James Woodford and flanked the annexe entrance during the ceremony. This coin belongs to the bullion tier of a program that ran parallel to a collector proof series, with both struck at Llantrisant.

The yale itself — a mythological creature associated with the Beaufort family through Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII — entered royal heraldry through the Tudor succession.
