The Unicorn of Scotland is one of the Queen's Beasts series, a ten-piece program the Royal Mint launched in 2016 to coincide with the Queen's 90th birthday, drawing on the heraldic supporters depicted on the 1953 coronation annexe. Platinum struck to .9995 fineness was added to the series later than the gold and silver releases, making the platinum unicorn among the last compositional variants to appear before the series concluded.
